Environmental Policy
A luxury hotel with a commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives would have been totally unthinkable a few years ago, however times are changing and Chewton Glen in association with several hotels and guest houses in the New Forest have recently become members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS)
The Green Tourism Business Scheme champions sustainable tourism in the UK and has become one of the most successful schemes of its type in the world with over 1,100 members. The scheme covers over 120 measures of sustainability. Sections covered include compliance with environmental legislation, management practice, communication methods, energy use, water usage, conservation, transport and wildlife.
Hampshire and the New Forest in particular is recognised as one of the world's most environmentally friendly destinations. In 2008 the New Forest was awarded the accolade as the world's most 'responsible' destination at the World Travel Awards, a great achievement for the UK.
Chewton Glen has achieved GTBS 'Silver Award' status, and the hotel is looking to improve upon this score and go for gold over the coming years.
Looking after the environment and supporting the local community, without any detriment to the luxury that guests expect when visiting the hotel is a fine balancing act and the GTBS initiatives fit extremely comfortably with our existing Corporate Society Responsibility activities.
